Bio:
I always start with my family’s journey to the United States because it is vital to my origin story. My dad and his family came from the province of Quảng Trị in Central Vietnam and arrived in the United States in 1975, after traveling by foot to the coast and left on a boat to a refugee camp, and was sponsored by an American family in Tennessee. My mom is from Nha Trang, which is in the southern part of Vietnam and arrived later in the 1980s by plane to Chicago without my grandfather, who had been arrested and sent to a re-education camp for 14 years. I spent my childhood with my grandparents eating persimmons, while causing and leading my cousins into trouble.

I attended Century High School in Hillsboro, Oregon and graduated from Portland State University with my B.A. in History (2015) and later my M.Ed. (2018). Prior to Central Catholic, I worked for three years at Holy Trinity Catholic School (Beaverton, OR) as an extended care assistant and substitute teacher. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, binge watching, and eating. My favorite movie is Sleepless in Seattle. My favorite artists are Journey, Wu-Tang Clan, Norah Jones, Kendrick Lamar, and Linkin Park. I just finished Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, and I’m currently reading Batgirl comics (DC Rebirth) and watching Season two of the original Star Trek.
