Personal Counseling
Central Catholic recognizes that students will not perform well academically if they are struggling with personal issues. We therefore approach the students as a whole person with important needs outside the academic arena.Through personal counseling, some goals are to:
- help students accept and respect their uniqueness
- enhance students' ability to interact respectfully and confidently with others
- help students to recognize and communicate emotions in a healthy way
- chemical abuse
- eating disorders
- sexuality
- career choices
- anger management
- depression
- self-esteem
- relationships
- crisis intervention
- family meetings
- peer mediation
Confidentiality Statement and Duty to Warn
It is the goal of the Counseling Department to offer students a safe environment in which to discuss personal issues. In some instances, Oregon State Law (Oregon Revised Statutes 419B.005-419B.45) requires the counseling department and all school personnel to report specific incidents. Examples, as provided by Oregon State Law are:- Duty to report any behavior, suspicions, or student reports of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, abandonment, or neglect to the appropriate agency;
- Reporting information to persons outside the school when a student indicates that a crime involving the likelihood of significant personal injury or significant property loss will be or has been committed;
- Reporting to one or more specific persons or agencies after a written release of information form has been signed by the student and parent and kept on file;
- Disclosing information deemed to be confidential when ordered to do so by a court of law.
