Constitution Team Places Third at Regional Competition
Congratulations to our Constitution Team as they finished third at the We the People regional competition and will now head to State on Saturday, January 26.

Con Team is now in its seventh year at Central Catholic. The We the People program is a nationwide competition focused on public speaking and knowledge of government and the U.S. Constitution. In addition to class time, students work with about a dozen volunteer attorney coaches for several hours each week.

Senior, Izzy Kemp says she joined the school’s team because, as a new voter, she wanted to be an informed citizen. “I think it is important for teenagers to really dive into how our government works so that we are respected for our knowledge and ideas about what we want to happen in government,” she said.

Social Studies teacher and Con Team coach Geoff Stuckart adds that instilling the values of service to others and community engagement are integral parts of Central Catholic’s school philosophy. “The We the People programs and experiences provide our students the opportunity to grow into their role as active and engaged citizens of their community, the country, and the world."

After graduating from Central Catholic, Izzy wants to continue studying politics and law. She sees this time, learning about government and the Constitution, as a great foundation for her future. “I think one of the biggest advantages of Constitution Team is that students, who feel like their voices are not valued as much by adults, feel empowered by the knowledge they have to share their own opinions with their circle of friends or even with their elected officials.”
