Practice Digital Learning Day - Nov. 22
This message is to announce a schedule change this month. Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 is currently a “W” schedule with a 12:30 PM release. In anticipation of winter and potential inclement weather, the Faculty and Administration at Central Catholic are now re-scheduling November 22 as a Practice Digital Learning Day. There will be no classes on campus that day. The academic area of the building will be closed and off limits to students. Exceptions will be made by appointment only.
What does this mean for you and your student?
Students will be expected to learn from home this day. Each instructor will prepare a lesson for the day even though there will be no formal classes on November 22. The schedule for the day remains a “W” day, periods 4, 5, 6, and 7. Students will be expected to log into Canvas and check with each class period and instructor to get their instructions for the day.
We have asked instructors to prepare no more than 65 minutes of course work for the day, the equivalent of a regular attendance day. We are also asking faculty to recognize this is a long weekend, traditionally reserved for family time, and not to have additional expectations for homework over the break.
It is possible that instructors will post lessons Tuesday afternoon, allowing your student to access the work before Wednesday. It will be important for each student to check due dates, some may be due Wednesday, others may have due dates later in the week or upon return.
What can you do to prepare your student?
Each student has a Canvas account and Gmail login assigned to them. Please ensure they will have access to a computer with internet access on Wednesday. If access to a computer or the internet is an issue for your student, please contact your student’s counselor at least one week in advance and the school will work with the family individually to problem solve.
Central Catholic is excited to take advantage of Digital Learning Practice Day as way to advance instruction in a non-traditional way. It is our hope that in the event of inclement weather causing a school shut down, learning can continue in such a way as we will not have to add days at the end of the year.
